WE CAN, AND WILL STAND BY HOSSEIN IN HIS HOUR OF NEED!!
Update, Saturday, June 2: It has been reported that Hossein, in his 8th day of hunger strike, with only 30% kidney function, recently took a turn for the worse and was taken to a hospital outside of Evin Prison. After about two hours, his tormentors returned him to prison against the doctors' advice. Link to the report in Farsi (English translation upcoming):
Update, Monday, June 4: It has been reported that on Sunday Hossein was taken to the hospital on the 9th day of his hunger strike.
The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reports that the jailed Iranian blogger was transferred to hospital on Sunday but he has insisted that he will refuse food until he is given a leave from prison.
It was reported that on Saturday the hardline head of Iran's judiciary has requested that the Tehran prosecutor's office attend to Hossein's medical needs.
Update, Wednesday June 6: Fellow inmates have smuggled out a letter warning that Hossein is "NEAR DEATH!" Please redouble your efforts to phone, fax, tweet & email DAILY using the below actions! The life you save WILL be Hossein's!!!
THIS ISN'T OVER, BUT IT IS PROGRESS. IT SHOWS THAT KEEPING UP THE PRESSURE AND PUBLICITY IN SOLIDARITY WITH HOSSEIN DOES WORK!!
PLEASE HEAR THE PLEA OF HOSSEIN'S FATHER, WHO SPOKE TO VOA:
About two months ago, we took Hossein to receive a nuclear CT scan and the results showed that he had lost one of his kidneys. He immediately needed to undergo medical treatment for a kidney transplant. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard prevented him from leaving the prison to receive treatment.
Hossein needs to remain under the supervision of a medical specialist for at least two months in order to determine the results of the operation.
In some cases, the body rejects the transplant kidney after two months and he may need to undergo a second operation to remove the kidney.
Unfortunately, the prison’s authority and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard did not pay attention to his situation and told us that if we allow him to leave prison, he will escape from Iran.
I am declaring that Hussein is a patriot and that he will never leave his country. If he had wanted to escape from Iran, then he would have already done so and would not be a prisoner.
I am asking from the Judiciary, prosecutors, and prison officials to review his file and to prevent unauthorized people from making a decision about his case.
They have kept him in a solitary cell for the duration of thirteen months; it is as a result of this that he lost one of his kidneys.
My request is that he be released from prison to receive medical treatment.”
In a further interview with Radio Farda, Ronaghi Maleki’s father said that the authorities had continually denied his son medical leave despite his dire health condition in Evin Prison. Since his arrest in December 2009, Hossein has undergone surgery five times due to kidney failure developed under torture.
“He [Hossein] says he’s suffering from severe kidney pain ... My son was healthy before they destroyed his kidneys,” Ahmad Ronaghi Maleki. “He says he’s gone on hunger strike ‘because they [the authorities] want to kill me’.”
He specified 5 regime officials who are directly responsible for his son's life-threatening condtion:
“Following are the 5 individuals. First is Mehdi Sattari, who is the brother of Judge Pir-Abassi’s office manger. Second is Parviz Sohrabi who is an intelligence agent from the city of Qom and one of Hossein’s interrogators. The other three are from Malekan; Sejad Lotfi, Siavash Jedi and another individual. The obtained evidence shows that these individuals have personally obstructed Hossein from receiving medical furlough and since they have no acceptable reason for this, they claim that Hossein will escape if he is granted prison leave. But Hossein will never escape from Iran. We will always live in Iran; this is our country and we love our countrymen.”
Regarding his son's desperate decision to go on hunger strike in his already life-threatingly dangerous condition he said: “We knew that if Hossein is transferred back to prison after his operation, it will be the 6th time that this has happened and this time he will end up dying in prison. For this reason Hossein and I decided together that he must resort to going on hunger strike. Hossein’s death after his transfer back to prison or from his hunger strike makes no difference to us; the result is the same.”
UPDATE, TUESDAY JUNE 29:
Hossein responded: "THESE MEN HAVE TO PAY THE PRICE FOR THEIR TREATMENT OF US."
BACKGROUND:
(SOURCE: HRANA HUMAN RIGHTS NEWS AGENCY)
Protesting lack of proper medical treatment and denial of medical furlough, Imprisoned blogger and HR activist Hossein Ronaghi Maleki has started a hunger strike. This is only the latest episode in the long history of suffering this young blogger has endured at the hands of his jailers and torturers. It is urgent for the international community to take up his case and act decisively on his behalf NOW: his life is in extreme danger!!!
According to reports by the Human Rights Activists News Agency, in a phone conversation with his family yesterday, Hossein informed them of his hunger strike. He launched this hunger strike despite his dire heath.
According to the radiologists who read Hossein’s latest CT Scan of his kidneys, the left kidney is non-functioning and must be removed.
According to doctors who have studied this CT Scan, Hossein’s right kidney is also not functioning properly and if surgery is not performed immediately, he will lose his right kidney also.
Previously, Hossein Ronaghi had said due to earlier failed Pyeloplasty surgeries he is in need of additional surgery. Delay in surgery will cause him to lose both his kidneys and will result in both kidneys being removed.
His kidneys were damaged by blows received during interrogation sessions which resulted in under going 4 different Pyeloplasty surgeries.
It should be noted that to reduce pain, Hossein is being injected on a daily bases with painkillers and with morphine which has caused him to develop gallstones.
Hossein Ronaghi Maleki, one of the Managing Directors of Iran Proxy, was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Revolutionary Court. He has been in prison since December of 2009.
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP:

Out of desperation he has gone on hunger strike to demand medical treatment. His left kidney is already nonfunctioning and must be removed. If he does not get urgent medical care right now, his right kidney will also fail. It is precisely because his jailers refuse this urgent medical care that he is now on hunger strike.
"On June 6, it was reported that more than 100 of Maleki's fellow prisoners in Evin wrote a letter to the authorities warning that the blogger would die if not provided with appropriate medical care. In their letter, the prisoners warned Maleki might experience the same fate of Hoda Saber, a political prisoner who died last June on hunger strike.
"I ask your offices to step in and demand that the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran live up to its human rights obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. SAMPLE LETTER
Esteemed members of the international community:
I am writing to you with utmost urgency regarding the case of imprisoned Iranian blogger Hossein Ronaghi Maleki, who is gravely ill due to kidney failure, and has gone on hunger strike to protest the refusal of his tormentors to grant him access to treatment.
On June 6, it was reported that more than 100 of Maleki's fellow prisoners in Evin wrote a letter to the authorities warning that the blogger would die if not provided with appropriate medical care. In their letter, the prisoners warned Maleki might experience the same fate of Hoda Saber, a political prisoner who died last June on hunger strike.
For news on this latest alarming development please see:
For more background, please see:
I urge you to pay close attention to the pea of Hossein's father:
"About two months ago, we took Hossein to receive a nuclear CT scan and the results showed that he had lost one of his kidneys.
THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY CANNOT TURN A DEAF EAR TO THIS FATHER PLEA, NOR TO HIS SUFFERING SON'S CRY OF DESPERATION AND AGONY!
Respectfully I must point out that if Hossien Maleki is allowed to die, then the Islamic Republic regime will be guilty of murder--and if the world community stands silently on the sidelines while this happens, we will all be guilty as accomplices.
PLEASE ACT NOW!!!
Sincerely,
END OF SAMPLE LETTER

Respectfully, I must point out that if Hossein Ronaghi Maleki is allowed to die as a result of his illness, the refusal of adequate medical care for this life-threatening illness, or his desperate hunger strike to demand such treatment, then this death will constitute nothing less than HIS MURDER AT THE HANDS OF THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC'S SECURITY APPARATUS.
Please rest assured that this tragic case is being watched by a rapidly growing part of the global community of nations. Consequently, his death or even continued mistreatment at the hands of his jailers will have very dire consequences for the public image, the reputation, and indeed the very legitimacy of the Islamic Republic in the eyes of the international community.
I urge you to act now to save this young man's life, and further to release him to his family on humanitarian grounds to get the full treatment he needs, and to secure his full recovery.
Sincerely,
