Basketball players battle with the Collier Co. School District‏ in Naples, Florida

My son plays for the Golden Gate Basketball team in Naples, Florida and they were invited to a tournament in Hawaii at the High School where our 44th president Barrack Obama attended. The Collier County School board denied the request stating that “Extra-Curricular and Activity Trips”, please see item J which states, “Overnight trips are not to be scheduled during semester and final exam weeks.” because the tournament falls on December 19-22 and the students have final test but what we asked the Collier County Board is to give those students that were invited to the tournament the final test on a different date. When this tournament was scheduled last year in Hawaii for the month of December 19-22 was because at that time they knew that no final test were on those days but what happened that after the fact when Collier county School board did the new school calendar changed the final test from January to December.
Another fact is that they are only going to be missing are two days and both are half a days because it falls on a Thursday and Friday. When a parent call in that the student is sick they are allowed to retake the test on another day so why not make an exception with these fifteen students out of 1,393.00 students that Golden Gate High have. This is a one time in life opportunity for them to go play out of the country. FOX news in Naples,Florida brought the subject in the local news but we need you to please bring this matter to everyones attention and hopefully we can get them to change their desicion. Thanks, Maribel
