    ALP lead anti-insurgent efforts in Zharay

     
    Zharay District, Afghanistan – Afghan National Security Forces and U.S. Soldiers found, exploited and destroyed multiple weapon caches and improvised explosive devices May 20 in Zharay District, Kandahar Province Afghanistan.
    Afghan Local Police found secured weapons caches consisting of two blasting caps, 12 pressure plates, a 155mm mortar round filled with explosives, a 165mm mortar round, a rocket-propelled grenade, an 82mm recoilless rifle round, three jugs of homemade explosives and four improvised explosive devices.
    An Afghan National Army and Afghan Local Police search of a compound uncovered an additional four jugs of homemade explosives, a jug of black powder, a 35-lb bag of ammonium nitrate and aluminum powder, 15 feet of detonating cord, four pressure plates, assault rifle magazines, rifle rounds, and 40mm rounds.
    Also, U.S. Forces found four improvised explosive devices and a local villager turned in another one.
