Motivation, Technology and Fitness
My brother, who is not in the best shape, has about 1000 excuses to not exercise. I find myself starting conversations with him about benefits of activity, exercises he can do without the aid of a spotter, gym, etc. Nothing works - he knows better.
He told me recently about Fitocracy - explained it to me like a video game - only you are the main character, and you gain levels, do quests, have duels, etc. Honestly, it didn't sound all that appealing to me, but to show support, I decided to join the site with him, and see for myself (he has yet to join - needs some motivation to get motivated).
I have been on for 3 weeks, and since joining, I have not only increased my cycling because of some of the challenges on their, I have also given advice to newer riders, incorporated planks and chair dips into my activity while at work, started a 100 push up challenge, ran a 5K.... body weight exercises... the list goes on...
While I didn't need motivation to ride my bike, I found it on Fitocracy, as well as motivation to reach out beyond my comfort zone... have some new goals - like doing 10 pull ups.. weight maintenance.. the list goes on, thankfully.
