    Denied Health Insurance and Health Care

    My health care experience is a worst-case scenario: Lost job at state medical university in 2009 where I worked in PR (and medical universities are among the most political and vicious places to work); I blew the whistle on boss for various abuses and violations who spent several years retaliating against me, including having me medically black-listed from the trauma level 1 hospital and all of its affiliates. (She ran for Congress once, so she knows all the buttons.) She also snooped into my health records that the medical university built and maintained, now run by McKesson and gleaned from that information to support her defamatory statements. My boss was not a clinician. She called my therapist, an MUSC professor, and demanded to know what I said in counseling. The counselor wouldn't see me after that. After I blew the whistle the university president, she not only was NOT fired, but this director directed the white coats from MUSC's Institute of Psychiatry to pick me up and institutionalize me. (Though I was sane, this woman driving me crazy.) This woman, my ex-boss and albatross is MUSC's PR director who used her official state capacity to impair my life, health, career and home. I since have learned that my experience is not entirely unique in South Carolina where currently, a former governor's staff member may have been subjected to wrongful medical privacy violations...Sounds unreal but it is unfortunately quite true; a veritable psychological thriller. I have nothing left to lose, since everything now is either gone or going. So, I have no fear. But "somebody" ought to do something about such abuses, since I've nothing left to fight with other than to get off the grid as much as possible (but that's another story). And while I am not pro-union, I do wonder whether a union representing state employees here would have made any difference. I kind of doubt it. In any event, even discussing a union at MUSC (or in any other state agency) is grounds for termination.
