Just My Two Cents - Reality Challenge
A Canadian long haul trucker named Ernie Pearce from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, is joined by a crew of two women. Katrina Myers an administrative assistant from Calgary, Alberta and Laverne Stewart a feature writer with The Daily Gleaner in Fredericton, New Brunswick in an attempt to raise $1 million in one year starting with just two cents and then give 100% of it away to those in need or less fortunate by writing a book, "Just My Two Cents".
Pearce and his crew love a challenge and want to help others around the world that are in need.
As he and his Two Cent Crew see others in crisis, they wonder if they can make a difference. Pearce got the idea after joking with another trucker about weird reality TV shows.
"I thought afterwards how hard could it be? I've done a lot of crazy things before. So I started thinking and forming ideas on what I can do and how I could try and help others."
The idea is simply to start with two cents and work towards making one million dollars that will go to people in need or less fortunate. The money is mainly being raised through the writing of a book in which anyone who wants to get involved can contribute. Contributors are also encouraged to donate $1 per word if they can. All of the contributed words will be re-arranged to form short stories and poems. Not only will your words be posted online but they will also be included in the book that will be published along with your name as a contributing writer. People can also submit their own original writings and poems as well and would be a great way to not only get your work published but help the challenge and make history.
The great news is that 100% of the money raised will go directly to the Red Cross Society (Red Crescent in some countries). Donations should be made directly to your national Red Cross as a gift or honorarium in Pearce's name for the purpose of this challenge. For your donation you will not only receive a writer's credit in the book but you will also receive a tax receipt from the Red Cross Society if they are offered in your country and you can designate where your money is used. Has Pearce ever written a book before now?
"No, but then again I've never tried to make a million dollars in one year from just two cents. Once we get rolling I'll seek the help of a professional. I mean a professional writer."
All of the profits from the sale of the "Just My Two Cents" book will also be donated to charity. Contributors to the book will not only be sharing their intellectual ‘two cents' but hopefully, their financial ‘two cents' as well to those in need.
What are Pearce and his two crew members getting from this? Not a penny. But like the other contributors they will get their names in the "Just My Two Cents" book as well and they hope to break a world record by having the most contributing writers to a single published book.
Can three ordinary Canadians raise one million dollars for charity in one year starting with just two cents?
