Benefits of Choosing a San Francisco Taxi?

I found this on the SFMTA website regarding benefits to choosing a San Francisco Taxi Cab......

Benefits of choosing a real San Francisco taxi

1.All vehicles undergo safety and meter inspections.
2.Drivers are required to take extensive training, including street navigation, and are subject to background checks.
    3. Taxis are insured.
4.You are supporting your local taxi drivers by using their service.

My comments are really, who the hell believes these benefits?

San Francisco Taxi's undergo taxi and meter inspections only once a year if that. I would like them to explain to the public what an inspection actually is. I myself reported to OSHA about taxi's at National Cab Company in San Francisco not having air bags deployed when engaged in an accident. I was referred by Osha to contact the SFMTA. I spoke with Christiane Hyashi, Assistant Director of taxi services. Christiane Hyashi referred mt tp Eric Richoldt a so called investigator for the SFMTA taxi services. There was no satisfaction and no follow up by the SFMTA to check vehicles at National Cab. So to tell the public that inspections are made infers safe vehicles, which many of have taken a San Francisco taxi cab and we know they are not that safe. The SFMTA should take reports of unsafe taxi's on the street seriously and do something about it when a car is reported. Remember folks it could be you in a taxi when the car gets into an accident.

Taxi drivers have background checks.... Yeah right, while driving I can not tell you how many times I have seen drivers get arrested because they have a warrant for their arrest. Also remember the driver who chopped up the woman and left her in Golden Gate Park years ago. Just a year or two ago I was attacked by a few drivers at National Cab Company and also reported it to the SFMTA Chris Hyashi who did nothing to ensure my safety as a driver. In fact I was told that the SFMTA is only involved in Permit processing and does not get involved with work disputes. Hell work disputes, I was assaulted by some drivers who are deemed safe to drive you around in San Francisco. Go figure.

Taxis are insured! What I was involved in a accident with an uninsured motorist who struck my car and caused injuries. The SFMTA has no regulations to have cab companies operating in San Francisco to carry Uninsured Motorist Coverage. What this means to you when you are in a cab while hit by an uninsured motorist that you are not covered by any insurance. The SFMTA needs to define what insurance coverage is required when making a general statement such as insured taxis!

Supporting local taxi drivers????? Most of the cab drivers live in the East Bay, Peninsula, and North Bay. While I was working as a taxi driver only a handful live in San Francisco.

The SFMTA needs to explain their claims regarding the benefits of taking a taxi, they are vague and many can only assume that they are protected when in a cab in San Francisco and as I found out you are not!

SFMTA places there false claims at their website address: http://www.sfmta.com/cms/xcust/realtaxi.htm
