    Ray Bradbury's legacy

    Once in a lifetime moments

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Sophiasmom06 says, 'Earlier this week, I mentioned to a friend that the transit of Venus was a 'Ray Bradbury moment.' That is the impact of his short story (All Summer ina Day) on me, that I would think of it and of him in any once in a lifetime type of moment.'
    - nsaidi, CNN iReport producer

I have been thinking about Ray Bradbury all week, in preparation for the transit of Venus. For some reason this once in a lifetime event reminds me so much of his short story, All Summer In A Day. This is about the little girl who lived on Venus but was the only one who had seen the sun, which on Venus only came out once every 7 years, a lifetime to a child. This story touched me deeply when I read it, as a child myself, and always remembered it. When I heard that Ray Bradbury died last night, I was completely struck. I wonder, did he have a chance to see the transit of Venus before he died? Was he just waiting to see it before he left us? Regardless of the answer to these questions, I find his passing during the transit to be one of those synchronicities in life that cause us to pause in wonder. It doesn't seem quite possible that it was a coincidence.
