Fleetwood Mac Member Bob Welch Is Dead
Bob Welch was a staple here on Los Angeles's Classic Rock FM stations, with both KLOS and now defunct KMET playing both his Fleetwood Mac music and his solo hits. Mr Welch passed away today at his home in Nashville, TN after a long illness, and he will be missed.
Welch was born here in Los Angeles in 1945, the son of successful Hollywood movie producer Robert Welch, best known for his work with Bob Hope movies. He joined the British band Fleetwood Mac in 1971, our favorite tune from this era was 'Hypnotized', from the 1973 LP "Mystery To Me".
We loved his solo career that began in 1977 with his big hit album 'French Kiss'. The hit singles 'Ebony Eyes', 'Sentimental Lady', and 'Precious Love' followed.
Ironically, Mr Welch was not inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame when Fleetwood Mac was inducted in 1998. "Now they want to write me out of the history of the group. It hurts" he said in an interview at the time.
In our opinion, he has now joined all the others in rock's Rock N Roll heaven. May God bless his soul, as the music lives on.
Mr Welch was 66 years old...his death is being investigated as a possible suicide, a gunshot wound to the chest. A suicide note was found...
RIP Bob!
