Severe weather |
Almost flooded in pensacola
- stein0726, CNN iReport producer
After a morning of heavy downpours from storms streaming in off the Gulf of Mexico, Pensacola was hit with widespread flash floods. So far over 13 inches of rain has fell, making it the second highest one-day-rainfall total for Pensacola on record! I was on my way back from getting an oil change when my family and I came across water over a road, we tried to detour it by going behind a shopping center, thinking they were be built on higher ground. We were wrong and almost paid for it highly. As we crept through the water it got deeper and deeper until I could see it almost over the hood. The van started to stall but got us to high ground thank goodness. Other drivers throughout the area were not so lucky as you can tell by my photos. These are areas I have never seen flood like this, and we have endured some pretty big hurricanes through here before. It was after I got home, and grabbed my camera and went back out that I shot these images. Not less than 4 blocks from my house. I thankfully live on high ground and were in no danger of water intruding my home. One image I wish I would have gotten, was when I saw a guy paddling his surfboard with a backpack on his back, escaping from his flooded home. I didn't have my camera out of my bag yet.A rookie mistake. Of course through all of this I found a floating Lost Sole in a neighbors backyard. Hopefully all of those people who have been hit by this act of God have insurance that covers this type of stuff. It is forecast to rain for another day or so, but not as heavy. Maybe the waters will start to recede as fast as they rose.
