Philippine Independence Day 2012 in Luneta

Today, June 12, the Philippines marked its 114th anniversary of independence from Spanish colonial rule. Various ceremonies commemorating Philippine Independence Day took place all over the country. I went to Luneta (Rizal Park) in Manila this morning to watch the Independence Day ceremony there. Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim led the flag-raising ceremony there. The mayor can be seen as the man without eyeglasses in the 4th picture of this report. I went to the flag-raising ceremony because I believe that patriotism is still important in this day and age. The love for country makes the citizen become a responsible member of the society. A citizen who has a strong sense of patriotism will do his best to promote progress in his own country.

Today's Filipinos owe a great debt to those of the past who had sacrificed, worked hard, and even died to give our country its independence and freedom. To keep faith with those who have gone before and upon whose toil and sacrifice the nation was built and established, today's Filipinos need to appreciate, uphold and show patriotism.
