What makes your Father's Day special?
One Last Day
June 21, 2009 was a special day – this was the last Father’s Day I got to spend with my Dad. How was I to know that the very next day, my Dad would die from a five-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Being able to spend one last Father’s Day with my Dad was a blessing – even though I didn’t know it at the time. At the time, I wasn’t sure what to get my Dad as a gift for Father’s Day – I knew that he couldn’t read a book or put together a puzzle. The best gift I could get him was to hold his hand, tell him I love him and just be with him. Looking back I realize that spending quality time with loved ones and making the most of every moment is what life is all about. My Mom and I were with my Dad when he passed away – this too was a blessing because he didn’t die alone. Now on every special holiday (i.e my Dad’s birthday, Father’s Day, Christmas, etc) our family writes a special message to my Dad and then ties it to a balloon and let’s the balloon fly to the sky above.
This photo is of my daughter of with my Dad on Father’s Day. She loved spending time with him and misses him dearly.
