Human Interest Story direct from G20 2012, Los Cabos, by Marilyn Graham: Local Mexican children with the “Orquesta Juvenil de Los Cabos” have been practicing and practicing with great purpose and emotion for their upcoming performance for the First Ladies of the G-20 in Los Cabos, Mexico.  I was fortunate to preview their “Mexican Concierto”, a song better known by locals and tourists as “Cielito Lindo”.  They performed beautifully!

“Coro:  Ay, ay, ay, ay; Canta y no llores; Porque cantando se alegran; Cielito lindo, los corazones.”

Or the English refrain: “Ay, ay, ay, ay. Sing and don’t cry. Because singing, they brighten up, Lovely sky, the hearts.”

So to the  heart  of this story, the unfortunate last minute cancellation of the “Mexican Concierto”!  Imagine the children’s disappointment…. better not to have promised in the first place.  Nevertheless, the kids quickly learned the meaning of this song, as children so adeptly do. They pulled together and continue practicing in earnest for their upcoming 4th Anniversary Concert of the Los Cabos Youth Symphony next weekend!  No tears....they sing and celebrate life, playing beautiful Mexican music with all of youth’s vitality!   “Carpe Diem” and no regrets.   Ah…to be a child and move on so quickly!

So BIENVENIDOS, or WELCOME, everyone from the G20 and locals!!  You can support our children by coming to their 4th Anniversary performance, June 22, 2012, in San Jose del Cabo at the Theatre, and June 23, 2012, at the Pabellon Cultural de Los Cabos. First Ladies Are Welcome!!! And thank you Symphony Director, Maestro José Alfredo Franco (and the kid's parents) for dedicating so much time and energy to our students.  CANTA NO LLORA!!!

Post Script:  Anyone out there in “press land”, if you would like to video this week’s practice or next weekend’s performance, I am sure this can be arranged.  Just contact us by email.  And as local resident Peter Domecq mentioned, "we are sending intentions of awareness, responsibility, peace, love and compassion to all the decision makers and leaders...at the G-20."  and Beautiful Skies!
