CNN PRODUCER NOTE     While braving the heat with his wife and daughter to catch an appointment in Rome, sandrocap says he made a quick stop to take a photo of a dog cooling off in a nearby fountain. "The day was very hot and still is," he says. "The dog in the fountain seemed to be a good representation of the overwhelming heat."

The anticyclone Scipio is being felt. Since yesterday the temperatures are reaching peaks of 35 40 celsius degrees (95-104 F). In the second frame, the car’s thermometer after about an hour under the searing heat, shows 46°C. Furthermore, these sudden changes in weather conditions create health risks for most vulnerable population, ie elderly, children and persons suffering from illness. Such temperatures will persist at least until the middle of the next week, experts says.
