CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Ryn of Hughesville, Maryland, started growing her own vegetables as a child growing up in eastern Tennessee. She documented the ripening process of a raspberry bush she cultivated in her backyard. "The ugly duckling, unripened raspberries turn into a delicious, red juicy fruit." She enjoys freezing her berries and using them to create blackberry and raspberry cobbler, a tradition she says was passed down from her grandparents to her generation.

We fell in love with this old farm house the first time we saw it. The woodland and meadows fit our lifestyle perfectly. Finding that the entire place was covered in wild raspberry bushes was definitely a plus. We immediately began to cut back weeds and evasive vines hopefully to have a good yield the next summer. We were not disappointed! Our first recipe was making a raspberry cobbler. This is our second season. I thought it was too early to pick but noticed the birds were already helping themselves. I don't mind sharing but I was determined to taste those sweet berries. Around midnight last night, I couldn't take it any longer and had a delicious bowl of Wheaties, Soy Silk and my freshly harvested raspberries. Oh my goodness!
I will be "berry pickin" every evening until the end of July. I just need to make myself freeze some for that July 4th pie.
