    From island owner to beggars

Boracay Island in the Philippines, one of the most popular beaches in the world, was once owned by the pygmy natives of Panay known as Ati.

Decades ago, some unscrupulous traders came to the island and offered coconut wine, locally known as tuba, to the Atis in exchange for ownership of the whole Boracay Island.

At present, the original owners of the island have become beggars in the now bustling island that earns billions of pesos in tourism revenues annually.
