Dedh Ishqiya - A movie to watch out for!

Dedh Ishqiya promises an element of entertainment never seen before as who started off in Bollywood in different eras join hands on screen.

The star cast, which includes the original Ishqiya pair Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi, now adds on the beautiful Madhuri Dixit-Nene and the petite Kangana Ranaut. With Madhuri-Naseer and Kangana-Arshad as pairs, expect this sequel to be a movie to look out for.

Based in Lucknow, and in the Muslim Social genre, director Abhishek Dubey says that he did not originally intend to make a sequel to Ishqiya, which was based in Gorakhpur. So what made him change his mind? “Repetition is death for me,” he explains, “I was against doing a sequel in the first place, because no matter how one looks at it, a sequel is an extension of the first film. But then when I finally decided on doing Dedh Ishqiya I decided to put the characters in a totally different ambience. ”

Did his actors comply? From what we know, Madhuri and Kangana got along like a house on fire. The unique setting puts the Mama-Bhaanja pairing of Naseer and Arshad in a new situation, which we look forward to watching. Besides, with the film, Dubey wants to recreate an old world charm that may be near extinction.

“I want to revive that old-world Nabobi charm of ornate architecture, the tehzeeb and the adaas that we saw in Muslim Socials like Mere Mehboob, Mere Huzoor, Chaudhvin Ka Chand and Nikaah,” he says “Of course the genre would be contemporized. But the essence of the genre, the flavour of the period, its essence and grace and most important the decadence of that Nabobi culture, would remain.”

As sequel to a movie that gave us great movies and dialogues, we look forward to Dedh Ishqiya just as much as the makers!
