    Colorado Springs in Flames, Eerie Skies as Fire Approaches

    As the east side of the mountain range burst into visible flames, the skies overhead northwestern neighborhoods in Colorado Springs were an eerie black and orange as the Waldo Canyon Fire rapidly approached populated areas near the Air Force Academy on the northwest side of town. The fire has reportedly jumped Queen's Canyon and is intensifying to the east of Rampart Range Road. The area is now in pre-evacuation mode. The Air Force Academy has canceled its planned July 4 festivities. Photo shows the eerie, darkening skies over the Discovery subdivision in Colorado Springs, just off Woodmen Road.
