VOW to Hire Veterans Act of 2011 Getting Slow Start

Less than 28,000 veterans responded to a 1 July 2012 deadline, than is allotted to fill 45,000 slots. The program pays the veteran a stipend of $1,473 per month for one year to study a program study that leads to a high demand job.

At first glance I felt it was a black eye to the homeless veteran who needs a job and not more education. Then I realized it was a jewel. I get to go back to college and learn about Accounting as I have a paralegal Degree and an Industrial Management Degree. But I have some things that has to be put in order and meanwhile I get paid to learn a new skill.

The plan would be to reenter the workforce after completion of Accounting Applications.

I think this is something President Obama should announce this initiative nationwide. But that would take the competitiveness out of it as it is an educational program towards the goal of employment. Lets hope it gets around by word of mouth.
