America's Cup Race Returns to Newport, Rhode Island
- rachel8, CNN iReport producer
The America's Cup is back and better than ever. At first it was a little difficult to accept the catamarans, but after seeing them in action, sleeker and faster than ever, I was convinced to let go of the old and bring on the new. Like so many, I found myself stuck in the early 80's with the memories of Dennis Connor and Ted Turner and the famous sail boats they had skippered.
Had the privilege of meeting a spectator yesterday that had attended the America's Cup in 1938. When she shared that bit of news with me her eyes sparkled and I knew there were stories to be told. Sometimes you don't need a detailed interview, you just enjoy that moment of sharing.
Yesterday, was just a practice day, but exciting none the less. The Governor of Rhode Island welcomed the Skippers of the Teams to Newport.
The Skippers were all ready for the races to begin this coming Thursday.
Part II to follow with a breakdown of the Teams and the Skippers!
