    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     MaddieLariv iReporter MaddieLariv captured this moment while driving toward Colorado Springs to rescue her parents from their home in the city. "One of my dearest friends is in imminent danger of losing her home ... and we are only about three miles from that area," she told CNN. "As I was driving out of town, I took a look at the horizon and it was engulfed in flame. All I could do was cry for my home."

    My childhood home is in the area of Colorado Springs affected by the fire. I can't believe how fast it grew. I drove down from Denver to help my parents pack up some belongings, and bring them and our two cats to safety. From 60 miles away, you could clearly see plumes of smoke, and the sky was bright orange from the flames. It got more and more terrifying the closer I got. I can't even begin to describe what this feels like. I'm numb and hollow. My best friend might lose her home, and my beloved hometown will takes years to rebuild itself. Never in a million years did I think something like this would happen to me or those that I love.
