Security on June 26th
In the southern tip of Colorado Springs, the fire's scale is driven home by an ominous mountain of smoke billowing over the rooftops
Safe and sound on a western ridge in their aptly named township, the people of Security have a unique view of the fire and it's toxic exhaust. As the heat rises, so too does the evidence of a terrible disaster, ravaging homes and lives only miles away.
Strange how things can seem so beautiful from afar. It leaves a sick feeling in my stomach knowing the truth, imagining the fear and emptiness of the ones who have lost everything to this natural machine, while photographing from a quiet, safe, secure distance.
