    Escape Waldo Fire

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     bboulier iReporter bboulier's wife took these shots earlier this week to show the intense ash and smoke around their home as the fires approached. "There was no panic but I'll admit by the time we were driving out my heart was pounding a bit," he told CNN. He has since found out that his house was saved after they stopped the fire in his family's backyard, but those around him are largely burned. "I'm kind of dreading returning," he said.

Here are several pictures we took leaving our home in Mountain Shadows Tuesday. It was 15 minutes from the evacuation notice until we drove out. We saw the ridge behind the house on fire, loaded up and bugged out - note the final pictures with smoke, ash and flames all around - it was like the movie Dante's Peak - but worse since we were in the thick of it. The the traffic on the ways out with the roads around burning were a bit sketchy too. But the community, civil and government had done a fantastic job. I remember the Oakland fire when I lived in the Bay Area.
