Extreme heat sends metro Atlanta over the century mark
ATLANTA, Ga. -- Temperatures soared over the century mark across Georgia on this week to record thus far the hottest days of 2012.
The heat added to misery for most as the Peach State suffered through a very dry June.
Playgrounds stood empty throughout the day and workers moved lunch indoors as millions looked to escape the extreme heat.
Temperatures this iReporter recorded pegged near the 120-degree mark by 4:15 p.m. as the dog days of summer began to bark their loudest.
"I can't take this heat," said Don Williams as he stood in the middle of his dry yard in suburban Atlanta. "And, I work outdoors for a living. It's incredible."
Temperatures are expected to cool by only a few degrees during the approaching weekend as highs remain near the 99-degree mark.
