Fishermen Rescued from Long Island Waters

Kings Park, NY – Two fisherman are in good health after becoming stranded in waters off the Smithtown shoreline early Saturday morning.

Around 1:20 a.m., the two were fishing on a sandbar between Short Beach and The Bluff when they became stranded. Nearby boaters were the first to hear their screams for help as the tide rose.

“We were docking our boat ready to leave when we just heard ‘help,’” says Jakub Przybylowicz, one of the civilians who helped rescue the stranded fishermen. “So we called 911 and we dropped our boat back in the water.”

The fisherman and Good Samaritans were evaluated by medical personnel once back onshore. No one was transported to the hospital.

The Suffolk County Police Department, United States Coast Guard, and numerous area fire departments including the Kings Park, Northport, St. James, Nesconset assisted in the search and rescue.
