    4th July in the Sandbox

    During the summer of 2002, I spent the 4th of July at Seeb North Air Base, located in Muscat Oman. The day prior I had returned from a "quick road trip" to Kandahar International Airport Afghanistan. We flew around 100 U.S. flags on that mission. I remember the temps that day being around 120 degrees. The base had a 4th of July style picnic with games, music, and plenty of food! For one day it took away the daily stressors all of us faced in some sort of fashion or another. For being so far from home and for such a long time it sure felt great being able to celebrate the 4th of July with my fellow brothers and sisters of the U.S. Armed Forces, and most of all to enjoy the freedom to do the things we love!
