    Severe weather

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Brought of Pikesville, Maryland, photographed a house that had been split in half by an uprooted oak tree after a powerful storm rolled through her community on June 30. "I've seen the toppled trees and power lines, or trees on houses, but not trees that fell through the house." The family who lives in this house retreated to their basement before the tree fell and escaped unharmed, says Brought.

This house was split in two when a tree in its front yard fell on it from Derecho. Thankfully the occupants were in the basement during the storm, as this fell through their bedrooms and could have easily killed them. We have huge trees in our neighborhood, and are used to seeing heavy damage from them, but I've never seen anything like this in the 6 years I've been here.
