    Fish in Syria Street

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     ichalhoub iReporter ichalhoub sent in this lively image of a fish seller on Syria Street in Tripoli, Lebanon, displaying his wares while a local child helps by waving flies away with a bag tied to a stick. As ichalhoub points out, many of the shops behind the fish seller's stall are closed due to ongoing clashes between the area and its neighbouring region. Owners are "not willing to take the risk" of opening, he says.

    Tripoli – Lebanon. At about 8 o’clock in the morning, he deploys his containers filled with fish. He keeps a fridge behind him to insure the necessary cooling for what he expects not to be sold. Abou Omar has been suffering lately from the constant confrontations occurring in the street where he usually works. “Syria Street became the frontline of clashes in Tripoli lately. Before, I used to sell all the fish at noon. Recently, I’ve been obliged to keep an electricity generator hooked to the fridge because I never know when I will have to throw everything in it and run away. During the last clashes I lost 20 kilos of fish because the generator ran out of fuel after 4 hours of constant gunshots!” Photo taken on June 14, 2012.
