    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     engineer50, 61, is a civil engineer who worked in the housing inudstry. 'We've gone hungry at times because we did not have enough money to buy food. I have bill collectors calling me everyday. I've gone months without a car because we don't have the money to repair them.'

    He says the president and Congress should work together to create programs to stimulate job growth, and stronger banking regulations are needed to insure that people are protected 'from the unscrupulous business practices that we have seen over the last 12 years.' Still, he says, 'It is not our government's responsibility to take care of my family.'

    I lost my job in January 2009. I have worked over 35 years. We have lost just about everything. My career is over. I have experienced age discrimination.
