Egyptian lawyers stage a sit-in in front of Nasr city police station in Cairo

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     arasquare says on July 06, 2012, there were reports in the newspaper that some lawyers in Cairo, Egypt, were beaten by Egyptian police. He says lawyers in the city responded to the brutality by protesting in front of police department. He says there have been several instances of police brutality and he does not believe those that committed the crimes will be prosecuted because of past acquittals.
    - Jareen, CNN iReport producer

Hundreds of Egyptian lawyers staged a sit-in on Friday, July 6, in front of Nasr city police station in Cairo after 6 lawyers were beaten heavily and tortured by police officers and soldiers in the police station. The street in front of the station was blocked by the angry lawyers and tents were set up. The head of Egypt's lawyers syndicates described the incident as "a violation of lawyers' dignity". Lawyers called for the prosecution of all policemen involved in the incident and threatened to launch mass demonstrations in front of police stations countrywide and the interior ministry's Cairo headquarters if the demands are not met. Security forces are deployed in the area, around the gates and on the roof of the police station.
