    Mountain Shadows Sunrise

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     docfrance of Colorado Springs, Colorado, documented the damage caused by the Waldo Canyon fire. He says although the mandatory evacuation for his community of Mountain Shadows has been lifted and the fortunate residents whose homes weren't destroyed are moving back in, there remains a sense of tension within his community. "Anyone in the area with an existing home is probably more-or-less underwater now on their mortgage since selling their home would be nearly impossible. Home values in the area are probably pretty close to zero and will be like that for several years I'd think." The photos were captured on July 7.

We were allowed to return to our home last night finally--and happily. Today, my wife and I took a sunrise walk this morning through the Mountain Shadows neighborhood with Doolie, our yellow Labrador, amazed by the destruction and beauty, tragedy and hope. We returned to see two fawns in our backyard, born there just five days before the fire started.
