This iReport is part of an assignment:
Because of the Internet... |
Because I Want To Be
- Jareen, CNN iReport producer
For 6 years now, I’ve been working from home as a teacher and every day, with the use of a voice over internet protocol service and software application, I conduct classes for my students who are in different countries.
Like many people, I strive to function in the best possible manner with the least waste of time and effort.
I want to be a good mother to my children and give them more of my time while being a good provider to them. These are the reasons I chose to work online at home.
Women have the right to earn and be a mother.
Aside from teaching, I have also embraced some of my passions – writing, photography and organizing charity missions.
I’ve always wanted to write since I was young and last year, while reading news articles online, I stumbled upon CNN Freedom project. This project awakened my enthusiasm for writing which I have put off for a long time. My journey in becoming a CNN iReporter began. From the blogs on lessons and tips about writing, interviewing, video editing, photography to the boot camp, I learned a whole lot, all online – through my computer and the internet.
I do this because I have the right to better myself.
The charity missions I organize are supported by people I’ve met in the internet - a foundation in Bourbonnais, Illinois, USA, which I am really happy to be a member of, sponsors from both the Philippines and the States and a whole lot of friends who help deserving Filipino youths. I prepare these missions from home using the internet. I type away on my computer keyboard, talk to and inform people about events with the help of graphic editing, audio editing and video editing programs and the social media, and send and receive messages using email. I am proud to say that with the help of a lot of people and the internet, the charity missions I organized have all been successful and have given me unexplainable delight and contentment.
Those wonderful people you just saw in the video are a group of hearing impaired children in need of support, my beautiful godchild who I only see through a social networking site, my cousin who’s always hard at work, my friend who’s a rescuer, my mentor in organizing charity missions and my foundation family.
I have the right to express myself and reach out and I am able to do all that because of the internet.
