    Sunset on Manhattan Grid

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Manhattanenge, the twice yearly event whereby the sun aligns perfectly with the east to west street grids of Manhattan in New York City, is captured in these images by RVCFOTO. "A lot of people did not know about Manhattanhenge until they saw so many photographers stationed waiting for the sun to set," she explained. "We were all excited and everyone just moved to the middle of the street to get a better view of the sun making its way across the grid. It was worth waiting more then an hour to see this phenomenon." Did you spot Manhattanhenge too? Share your photos here.
    - sarahbrowngb, CNN iReport producer

Manhattanhenge happens at two different times during the year. For 2012 it falls in May and July when the setting sun aligns with Manhattan street grid from west to East. A rare and beautiful sight.

This evening we were able to see the full Sun on the grid at 42nd street and Grand Central. Traffic almost came to stand still as photographers and pedestrians all grouped in the middle of the street to photograph this amazing phenomenon.
