Living in small spaces |
Teeny Tiny but Loving It
- Jareen, CNN iReport producer
My roommate and I are living in a two-bedroom 340 square foot apartment...small enough to debate if we were going to have a couch or a kitchen table.
So we decided to make the best of the tiny rooms. Luckily we have almost 10-foot ceilings so I decided to furnish upwards! I bought a full size loft bed, leaving me with my "lair," a place for my desk and huge dresser. We hardly had any counter space so we bought that giant cutting board that fits over the sink or stove to help with meal prep. That debate over the couch vs. kitchen table? A desk from Ikea that converts down to coffee table height and fits our living space perfectly, plus folding chairs hidden behind the couch in case company turns up.
On top of the tiny living space, I had a lack of funds for all of this furniture, so I took to the garage sales and bought a dreadful desk for $30 and gave it a new life, plus I found my dresser in my basement and turned it turquoise. That white and turquoise bookcase was found by the side of the road and brought home and painted too.
What I think is key to tiny living? Storage space! We have a huge cubby case in our hallway that is priceless to us. So while we're living in a small place we have everything we need and feel cozy and at home.
