Art Walk chalk drawing causes LAPD arrests

Thursday's Art Walk turned into a riot scene with LAPD arresting people who came out with chalk to draw on the sidewalks.

Originally the Occupy movement started as a Facebook event page to protest against the arrest of several people last week for using chalk to draw in areas around downtown.

At the start of the event a small group of approximately 30 Occupy protesters met at Pershing Square.

Shortly after they arrived and started to draw local security asked them to stop and the participants moved to the Art Walk in downtown LA.

Others joined in the chalk drawing event. Adults and children alike were drawing on the streets in downtown when they were observed by a group of officers on Spring Street.

At this point the seemingly peaceful chalk drawing event started a conflict between the police and participants.

LAPD started to make arrests but as crowd began to grow back up law enforcement was brought in to help control the crowd.

A riot began later in the evening and several people including police officers were injured.
