The Colors of Peru in the Pisac market

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     JIafrate was traveling through Pisac, Peru, and says she was inspired to capture this photograph because of the colorful and repetitive nature of the Peruvian dolls. She says Pisac is a small agricultural community outside the city of Cusco. The area is known for its Inca ruins and for its expansive weekend markets. She says a highlight of the market is the produce. Local farmers come into the market to sell their crops. 'In this area of Peru, the food markets are dominated by women because the men increasingly work farther and farther from home. The women proudly dress in traditional Peruvian clothing,' she says. 'It's a wonderful place to visit with the locals if you can speak Spanish.' This photo was featured on CNN's Travel photo of the day on August 13, 2012.

The Sunday market in Pisac is the largest in Peru's Sacred Valley. It's filled with vendors, artists and farmers, each selling their wares to a largely tourist crowd.
