Clashes erupt near the Syrian embassy in Cairo

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Between 200 to 400 Egyptians in Cairo protested outside the Syrian embassy following the deadly bomb attack in the Syrian capital of Damascus on Wednesday. iReporter arasquare was there to capture video of the protest, which he says turned violent after pushing between protesters and police turned to fighting. "We have had many protests in solidarity with the Syrian revolution," he said. "Some protesters wanted to raise the Syrian rebel flag in the embassy but many others refused to do so." Several were injured, including the man carried away in the third video. "The people here are very optimistic over the Arab spring and they feel the same oppression and misery and problems the Syrians do," he said. "We feel we have connected and we support each other."

Clashes erupted near the Syrian embassy in Cairo on Wednesday, July 18, after police attacked a march minutes after its arrival at the embassy. The protest was peaceful although there were some calls to storm into the embassy and raise the flag of the free Syrian army. As soon as the protesters arrived at the barricades outside the embassy, the police pushed them back using force and that's how the clashes started. Clashes involved rocks throwing and molotov cocktails from both sides. Security forces had batons, shields and helmets. Security forces used tear gas and bird shots against protesters. We also heard the sound of live bullets shot in the air and I couldn't confirm whether these bullets were aimed at protesters or not. Dozens were injured. Injuries were in the head, chest and legs. At least 15 protesters were arrested during the clashes.
