Are we film makers to blame?

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     dpkronmiller has worked in the entertainment industry for almost 20 years. He says after a number of violent incidents have happened in the past few years, he wonders if those making media should consider some responsibility for the content they put out for consumers. 'I don't know what the answer is and I don't believe in censorship, but maybe we should keep that question in mind,' he says. He is in the middle of filming a gun scene for a web series and is starting to reconsider if he even wants that violence in the piece any longer.

'I wonder if we are desensitized to violence?' he asks. 'When I lived overseas it was a different experience. In America we are safe ... we don't necessarily feel the consequences of violence as opposed to people who live in areas of conflict.'

News of the Colorado theater shooting horrified him. 'I was in shock when I heard the details,' he says. The fact that the incident took place in a theater scares him because he considers a theater to be a vulnerable location. 'You are relaxed there. There is a level of trust. It is a kind of violation when you think you are in a safe place and then it becomes of place of terror and paranoia.'

He still plans on seeing the new Batman movie this weekend, but says the shooting will be in the back of his mind. 'I am going to think about it the next time I am in a theater. It is going to affect me,' he says.

My thoughts on the massacre. Are we in the entertainment industry at all responsible? What can we do?
