    Was rampage inspired by movie?

In the movie "Rampage" a young man fed up with society orders a bunch of very similar armor, guns and explosives walks around town killing everyone he sees. His reasoning being that we are at a dead end with society and the only way to fix things is through extermination. I am very surprised this has not been mentioned at all. The details in this movie are disturbingly similar to the events in Aurora, CO. Was he finished or was modern technology what stopped him. Either way, the police and other authorities prevented a much bigger catastrophe. Any insight into this would be very interesting to see. Rampage is currently available to watch through Netflix.
