CNN PRODUCER NOTE AndrewEB says the recent Colorado shooting prompted him to send in a video about his thoughts on gun control. The main point he wants to emphasize is that military grade guns should not be sold to the public because he does not believe there is a common use for them. 'If you want to feel safe there are always handguns and shotguns,' he says.
As a Canadian, he is familiar with guns, having friends with parents who would go hunting for recreation. But he does not understand America's attachment to guns. 'I understand America is different from the rest of the world, they take their Constitution very literally,' he says. However, he feels the literal interpretation is leading to distortions of the Second Amendment. 'I think Americans need to reevaluate the Second Amendment in a historical context,' he says.
In terms of the Colorado shooting, he says there is more to mass shootings than just gun control.’ We need to check the backgrounds of people, and the mental soundness of people who want to use guns,' he says. But he does not think there will ever be a time where guns are totally banned from society. 'I can't imagine a world without guns to be quite frank,' he says. 'If guns weren't part of life we wouldn't have won the wars we did, but that's war, in civilian society I think there should be more limitations on gun ownership,' he says.
