Floating Abandonment on Little Torch Key, FL
I recently spent the day with some friends aboard a 22' rented fishing boat battling the 6-8 ft swells offshore in the Florida Keys.
After a day filled with amateur fishing, exciting (but dangerous) snorkeling above the coral reef at Looe Key, and getting caught in a brief but powerful storm, the skies opened up for just a few moments, allowing me to get this great shot of a seemingly abandoned shack along the channel between Little Torch Key and Big Pine Key.
Immediately upon seeing the shack, I knew I had to try to capture every detail, from the randomly strewn items on the porch to the branches and roots of the mangroves behind it. To do so, I made this shot three separate exposures overlaid on each other...producing this cartoonish and surreal result.
Ultimately, I think this one shack does a great job summing up the laid back, tight-knit lifestyle that comes along with life in the Keys.
