London Celebrates the Olympics by Night

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     iReporter TanyaLN22 snapped these images of London at night as the city gears up for the Olympic games. "As we sat out on the benches by the Thames enjoying the lovely views of central London we noticed that the lights of the Houses of Parliament were turned off earlier than usual and the building was quite dark," she said. "After several minutes, images started running across the Houses of Parliament like a slide show. First, the swimmers came running from right to left across the building, then the image stayed in place for several seconds. Then a projection of cyclists came across, and later a beautiful, waving Union Jack." The opening ceremony is this Friday.

See the sights of London preparing for the Olympics at night! Tonight the beautiful lights of the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben were turned off early, and abruptly. As we sat along the South Bank of the River Thames to enjoy the sights of London by night, a slideshow of Olympic-themed images started to appear along the sides of the Houses of Parliament. It was exciting to witness, and it will be even more dramatic during the Olympics because tonight was just a test.

Along the banks of the Thames the sights of Central London are all gorgeously lit up at night, including the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye, Millenium Bridge, St Paul’s Cathedral, Tower Bridge with the Olympic rings, and various other buildings sporting UK or Olympic pride.
