US Navy Over Perth
In the mid-1980s, I was an enlisted Naval Aircrewman, flying in S3-A Vikings. I was assigned to the Dragonfires of VS-29 and we deployed aboard USS Carl Vinson.
In 1985, we visited Perth, Australia. About a day or two before pulling into port, Carrier Airwing 15 (all the squadrons deployed on the ship) participated in a "Diamond of Diamonds" flyover of the city. The formation consists of 16 aircraft flying in four diamonds, each with four aircraft flying in their own smaller diamond formation.
The first image shows an S3-A from VS-29. Image number two shows an EA-6B Prowler from the VAQ-134 Garudas in the foreground - part of the diamond I was in - and four A-6E Intruders from the VA-52 Knightriders in their own diamond. Images three and four show other EA-6Bs from VAQ-134.
