    Gun ownership in America

Gun ownership is not a crime

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Currently owning fourteen guns, RedDawnK says he mostly use them for small game hunting and adds that every generation of his family has owned firearms. "Half of my firearms are inherited from my father, grandfather and great grandfather. Fourteen at the moment is enough, but I would like to expand my collection to more," he says. "It's all about being a responsible owner and if you aren't, then you don't deserve to have them. In five years I have never had a situation that requires me to draw my pistol. I do not want to use it against someone, but if they start shooting I will to the best of my ability to protect the people around me."
    - Anika3, CNN iReport producer

I've had my conceal carry permit for five years now. I abide by the laws of establishments that choose not to allow me to carry on their premises. I don't know of a time in my life when I have not had a firearm or access to one. I have never shot anyone and I am responsible with it. For the most part the reactions from people knowing that I am carrying a concealed weapon are positive however there is a small percent that view it as a crime. Having a gun in their eyes immediately makes me a criminal and someone to be feared. I have had proper training in using it, I have used it for five years and I am safe. I have never drawn my pistol and I hope I never will. It was perfectly legal back in the late 1800's to carry a weapon upon one's person because of the violent climate of the time. in 2012 things are potentially just as violent and I believe it is the right of everyone who can pass the Conceal Carry Course and Background Check to carry a firearm in defense of themselves and those around them. I don't ever want to use my firearm against another person but I am prepared to do so if the situation warrants such an action.

Gun ownership is not a crime, doing nothing when you have the means to stop a situation is.
