This iReport is part of an assignment:
    Remembering theater shooting victims

    Matt McQuinn: Hero

I was shocked and saddened by the tragedy in Aurora. I felt helpless to do more than grieve the loss of innocent people. I have found that there are at least some who felt empowered to do something. David Kasel, a former design student of mine, now a designer in his own right, was a high school friend of Matt McQuinn. Matt was killed heroically protecting his girlfriend in the theater that night. David immediately designed a t-shirt honoring McQuinn as a hero and is selling the shirts with 100% of the profits to benefit Matt's family.

I now take a lesson from my student. He found a way to use his talent as an artist to do something positive in the darkness of tragedy. That's kind of heroic, too.

The shirts are very cool and available here
