    A shade for life!

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     ichalhoub is currently in Tripoli, Lebanon. While he was driving with his friends, he noticed covers between buildings along the streets. He got out of the car and began taking pictures of the curtains and the people walking behind them. These people are Alawite Muslims located in the town of Jabal Mohsen in Tripoli. Whenever there are clashes going on between the Sunni Muslims and the Alawite Muslims, they use these covers to protect them from the bullets.

Tripoli – Lebanon. Jabal Mohsen area is home to the Alawite Muslims. Large numbers of people there support the Syrian regime, or that’s what they say. The Jabal (hill, mountain) overlooks Bab El Tebbaneh with its Sunni Muslims supporting the Syrian people in their fight for freedom. Here, citizens, just like from the lower side, try to conceal their movements during recurrent clashes between the two aforementioned areas. It’s been more than a year of constant confrontations. In gaps between buildings, curtains have been devised to allow for a cover from bullets…providing a shade that could save lives! Photos taken on June 14, 2012.
