Private Property Rights and Spontaneous Memorials
The owners are stuck. Maybe they can make a deal with the city to have the city buy it and turn it into a permanent memorial, thus giving up the future of business revenue and the jobs they would provide.
I think a compromise can be attained.
I have a house near a corner where a teenager was killed in a car accident. There was a vacant lot on the corner. A temporary memorial was set-up. Eventually someone put a more permanent memorial there.
The owners wanted to put a Taco Bell in on the corner. The Taco Bell owners decided to put a permanent memorial in the corner out by the street essentially giving up one or 2 parking spaces. That Taco Bell is very popular and people eat there all the time and use the drive thru. It also employs lots of young adults helping provide jobs. Therefore it proves you can have both a memorial and a thriving business at one location. I hope a similar thing happens in Aurora
