The KBIC 34th Annual Maawanji'iding (Powwow)

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     DaElmersBack of Iron Mountain, Michigan, was invited to participate in a Native American pow-wow held in honor of United States veterans Terrance Picciano and Robert Voakes. He was awestruck by the ceremony, documenting the tribe’s every move as sunlight illuminated their feathered garb during a gathering of song and dance. DaElmersBack says it was his first time experiencing Native American culture, adding that he was particularly inspired by the tribe’s knowledge of their heritage. “This was something I could have never learned in any classroom. Not only did I enjoy it, I will definitely go back again next year,” he says.

The MI PGR was asked to escort a group of Native American Riders to the KBIC 34th Annual Maawanji'iding (Powwow) in Baraga, MI. I was lucky enough to be part of this escort. After our arrival, we were invited into the circle during their veteran ceremony. We were also invited to stay and camp over-night which I also did and am glad I did so.. Listened to the drums all night long..
