Indiana pastor, Jack Schaap, dismissed from position because of inappropriate relationship
Indiana Pastor Jack Schaap Known throughout Fundamentalist Christianity as being the head pastor of First Baptist Church of Hammond, has been dismissed from his duties as pastor after a Wake County police investigation into his relationship with a "younger woman".
First Baptist put out a press release in which it said that "(Jack Schaap) committed a sin that has caused him to forfeit his right to be our pastor. . .Our church grieves over the need to take this action and the impact it will have on our people”, Wilson said. “We ask that everyone pray for the families involved, and pray that the situation will be handled in a Christ honoring manner. We look forward to the days ahead as we continue to service the needs of our surrounding community and the Chicago area.”
The Wake county sheriff said that all members of the church are cooperating and that several "high-ranking" church officials are being talked to at this time.
Because of the nature of the investigation, the woman involved cannot be named.
Since taking over the church and college 11 years ago Schaap has been one of the most influential leaders in the churches growth. Recent estimates show First Baptist to have at least 13,000 members, with many more visitors in attendance.
This announcement comes on the 19th year anniversary of another scandal, in which a deacon, A.V. Ballenger, sexually molested a 7 year old girl in her Sunday School class.
