    Fighting Bob

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     iReporter 3Bobby snapped this poignant shot of his father, a former amateur boxer, in his home country of the Philippines. Earlier this year, on learning that his father had taken ill, he flew from the UK to the Philippines to be at his father's bedside. "When we arrived he was so excited and his health improved a lot. I asked him if he still had the skills of being a boxer, as he always showed me when we were much younger," he said. "I was so amazed at what I saw when he started with a 1-2-3 combination of punches. I said 'Wait, I have to get my camera!' and we had a photo shoot. He preferred to do the shadow fight while sitting in his favorite bamboo chair [at home]." His father had done so well with boxing when younger that it had paid for his college degree, and our iReporter remembers boxing being incredibly popular in his home town of Calamba. "There was a time in my high school days when boxing in our town was so popular, we had pay per view bouts almost every weekend in a local arena," he said. The only problem with his father's boxing prowess, he says, is that "when we do a sparring bout, he won't take it lightly!"

70 years ago my father Beb a.k.a. "Fighting Bob" was a varsity-amateur boxer of a local University in Central Philippines.
This year during his 90th birthday, he showed me his skills in shadow boxing whilst sitting on his favourite chair. He's my hero.
